Orestes History

Basketball

Orestes School has had an outstanding basketball tradition since the days of outside practices behind the school to the home games played at Cunningham School before its gymnasium was built. No wonder it was tough to beat them in their own gymnasium when they finally got one! The school has proudly served up great players to the high school ranks in Alexandria and Elwood. Perhaps the greatest Cyclone player and holder of the school's coveted scoring record of 51 points in 1935 was Muff Davis. His accolades include being selected twice as an All State center at 6' 1", an Indiana All Star at Elwood High School and started for Adolph Rupp at Kentucky starting as a sophomore. He was part of Kentucky's legendary "Fab Five" and played on several National Championship teams.
